Hi, I’m Deb Evans—a children’s author, reading specialist, and lifelong literacy advocate. I write books that do more than entertain: they build confidence, spark curiosity, and help children fall in love with reading.

Through my work as a reading tutor for struggling and dyslexic students, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful the right book can be. I’ve worked with hundreds of children who believed they couldn’t read—until they found stories that met them where they were and made reading joyful again. That’s why I write the kinds of books I wish more kids had: books that are accessible, uplifting, and rooted in timeless values.

Why I Write These Books:

• I’ve spent the past few decades teaching struggling and dyslexic children how to read. It is my Heart Work. As I watched my students gain reading skills and eagerly look for books they could practice their new skills on, I often saw them hit a wall. Children who are avid, natural readers have a wonderful abundance of amazing books available to them. But emerging and growing readers have a much smaller pool to choose from. Simpler books can be either too “babyish” or boring. More interesting or exciting books can often be too difficult for them to read and understand.
• Because kids deserve stories that make them feel safe, seen, and strong. Whether it’s learning how to manage focus, exploring history through a puppy’s eyes, or rediscovering the wisdom of Proverbs, every book I write is positive, wholesome, and filled with encouragement. Parents never have to worry about what their children are reading. In fact, I encourage families to read my books together.
